Shop Scented, Sculptural and Pillar Candles Made with 100% Soy Wax

We are often asked why we choose to make our scented, sculptural and pillar candles using soy wax.

There are many different types of waxes out there, soy wax, palm wax, paraffin wax, beeswax, coconut wax, soy blend wax etc.

What is soy blend? Soy blend is just simply a combination of soy wax with another kind of wax. Paraffin is the most common used in these blends as it is very easy to master and it produces consistent aesthetic results (glossy finish, smooth top after each burn etc). Most mass-produced candles are made with paraffin wax or soy blend with parrafin.  While paraffin wax is cheaper and known to have superior scent throw, paraffin is actually derived from petroleum and is not environmentally friendly or sustainable.

Eco-Friendly and Healthier Candles: 100% Soy Wax

Simply put, we choose 100% soy wax with no additives to make our candles. Although it is pricier and harder to master, soy wax is 100% natural product and because of this, it may also cause slight surface imperfections after each burn. However it is definitely better for the environment, better for the homes and better for your health.

100% Natural, Renewable, Eco-Friendly Material

Soy wax is made from soybeans, it is a solid form of hydrogenated soybean oil, they are natural and a renewable source that can be grown and harvested in in many regions, making our soy candles the most environmentally friendly option.

We do not use any additives or blend of paraffin wax, paraffin is a bi-product of the refinery process of petroleum oil, it is derived from crude oil, a non-renewable resource that contains carcinogenic substances which can be harmful to our health. Crude oil and its manufacturing process have also caused many environmental tragedies, including pollution, oil spills, damage of natural habitats and is also contributing to global climate change.

We also avoid any additive using palm oil in our candles, as it is a non-sustainable resource and destroying ecosystems, biodiversity and supporting unfair human rights practices. Palm oil has been and continues to be a major driver of deforestation and habitat degradation, as well as increasing the effects of climate change.

Cruelty-Free and 100% Vegan

Soy candles are 100% vegan and do not contain nor require any animal products in their production or use.

Easy to Clean Up

Soy wax is naturally biodegradable and water soluble that makes accidental spills easier to clean up. It can be cleaned with soap and hot water rather than harsh chemicals.

Non-Toxic and Cleaner Burning

Given that soy wax is all natural, it contains zero toxins, carcinogens or pollutants so it does not emit any nasties into our atmosphere.

Soy candles burn cleaner with minimal soot and will not detract the air quality in your living spaces. So soy wax is much healthier for us and the environment.

The warm flickering glow of the flames and the captivating scents of our soy candles can help set a relaxing mood and elevate the overall ambience in any room, whether you’re working from home, having company for dinner, or enjoying a self-care ritual like a little “me-time” in the bubble bath, or a quiet time with a glass of wine, you do not have to worry about breathing in toxic and carcinogenic fumes emitted in the air by paraffin or soy blend candles.

Candles containing any paraffin whether it is in the form of the actual wax being used, or additives and chemicals being added to and blended with other waxes in order to make the resulting candles look better aesthetically, actually contain hidden dangers.

Common additives used are Microcrystallines derived from petroleum to help improve the texture of wax, as well as Polyethylenes produced from natural gas to add a glossy finish.

Paraffin releases undesired chemicals such as alkanes, alkenes, and toluene, all of which are toxic to humans. Inhaling these compounds over a long period can increase the risk of developing chronic conditions such as common allergies, asthma, and even certain types of cancer.

Longer Lasting

Soy wax has a lower melting point compared to other waxes. Soy candles burn at a cooler temperature meaning that soy candles will burn slower and last longer than paraffin candles. This means that you can enjoy your soy candles for more hours than paraffin candles of the same size.

Downsides of Soy Wax

Soy wax is a natural ingredient, it is very sensitive to temperature and humidity changes.
Because of this, when the soy wax is exposed to excessive heat, cold temperature, or moisture, or when the melted wax cools and sets unevenly, slight frosting, discoloration, or uneven top may form at times. This is simply a characteristic of all-natural soy wax and does not affect the quality and the performance of the soy candle in any way. It’s actually how we know it’s a completely natural soy wax, free from paraffin and nasty additives.

We decided not to use any additives or chemicals in our candles to tackle that common characteristic of soy wax. We rather sacrifice the small aesthetic downside of using all-natural soy wax rather than sacrificing your health and safety.

At the end, it was an easy decision to make.

Quality at Quietude Candles

We take pride in the quality of our products at Quietude Candles. Not only we choose to use natural soy wax for its benefits but we have also carefully selected the types and the sizes of the candle wicks with your safety and health in mind.

Natural Cotton Wicks

Candle wicks actually function as the fuel to the flames and these will influence how the candle burns. Only lead-free cotton wicks are used in our candles and the sizes of the candle wicks have been tested vigorously to prevent your soy candles from burning too hot to minimize excessive smoking and soot to be released into the air.

We do regular tests to ensure we are offering the best quality scented and decorative sculptural candles to our customers. If you notice any performance issues with your candles, please reach out to us so we can assist you.
